If you've ever driven or scrolled past Kingston Athletics and wondered, "What is CrossFit, and is it for me?" — you're not alone. CrossFit has built a strong community, but it’s also picked up some myths along the way. Before you step into your first class or write it off entirely, let’s break down what CrossFit really is — and what it absolutely isn’t.
At its core, CrossFit is a group fitness class. You show up, a coach leads you through a warm-up, movement instruction, and a workout. You don’t need to plan anything — just come ready to move. But this isn’t your average group class. We focus on functional movements — squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling — that help you in everyday life. The workouts are scalable to your level, whether you’re brand new or experienced.
The real magic of CrossFit? The people. At Kingston Athletics, you’re not just working out next to someone — you’re part of a team. Members support each other, celebrate wins, and make fitness fun again.
No two days are the same. Each session brings a new workout (we call it the “WOD” — Workout of the Day), mixing things like rowing, lifting, and bodyweight movements. It keeps your body guessing and your mind engaged.
You don’t need to “get in shape” before starting. That’s what we’re here for. Most of our members walked through the doors as beginners, and everything can be scaled to match your ability. Progress happens at your pace.
Form comes first. Our coaches emphasize technique and safety over intensity. You’ll train smart and stay healthy.
Intensity is relative to you. We encourage you to push your limits, but always with the goal of long-term, sustainable progress — not burnout.
CrossFit isn’t a cult, it’s not a bootcamp, and it’s definitely not just for the “hardcore.” It’s a group fitness class for anyone ready to show up, move, and improve. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for something new, CrossFit at Kingston Athletics is about building strength — both physical and mental — in a supportive, empowering environment.
